Everything you know about human trafficking is wrong.

“I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it.”

– Liam Neeson’s character in Taken

It probably won’t surprise you to find out that Taken is not a very accurate depiction of human trafficking.

Did you know, though, that those posters in the airport that tell you to keep an eye out for human trafficking are doing more harm than good?

In fact, most “awareness campaigns” are bogus.

I didn’t know that.

I know someone who does, though.

Karen Romero is an expert on human trafficking at Freedom Network USA.

I will be interviewing Karen next week.

In our pre-interview conversation, I learned that everything I thought I knew about human trafficking was wrong! Apparently, a LOT has changed in the last few years!

The live interview is on January 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm central time.

It is part of our monthly training series, where we focus on practical information you can use in your job.

Normally these are for members only, but we are going to open this one up for free to anyone who wants to attend. The Zoom registration link will be in next week’s newsletter; however, our Zoom webinar room can only handle 3,000 people, so we will have to cap it off there.

Have a question for Karen?

We will take live questions during the interview.

Have a great week!

Peace,

Ryan
