Empathy-Researchers Wanted!!!

Do you:

  • Believe that everyone deserves dignity?

  • Feel called to heal a broken world?

  • Love to learn new things and share what you have learned with others?

  • Want to be part of team that believes in the power of empathy?

We are looking to add several independent contractor researchers to our team.

We are looking for people who are able to:

  • Take a general research topic (e.g. PTSD) and find relevant reputable sources on that topic.

  • Read large numbers of social science journals, books and internet sources and pull out concepts that would be helpful for our training materials.

  • Organize key concepts in a meaningful way.  We tag key concepts and quotations in PDF documents in Citavi.

  • “Follow the research” wherever it goes.  Rarely do we have a specific research question.  Instead we dig into a topic and let the research dictate where we go with it.

  • Work with me and others on our team to build training materials around the key concepts discovered in the research.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Ability to work independently with little direct oversight.

  • Willingness to ask questions when tasks are ambiguous or confusing.

  • Willingness to do occasional Zoom meetings during U.S. business hours.

Details:

  • We don’t care where you live (as long as you have internet access and can do Zoom calls during Chicago business hours).

  • We don’t care if you have another job as long as you still have time to work with us.

  • We are looking to bring in independent contractors, not employees.  You are responsible for all taxes, etc.

  • We are looking to bring in several people.

  • We are looking for people who want to work with us long-term.  We will start with “test” projects, though, to make sure that we are good fit for each other.  Please don't apply for this if you are just looking to make some money while looking for something better.  It will take us a lot of time to train/prepare you, so please be respectful of that investment.

Here is the process:

Step 1:  Send me an email (ryan at homelesstraining dot com) with your resume and sample of your written work.  Please answer these questions:

  • Why do you want to work with us?

  • Why are you a fit for this work?

  • What is your experience with our training materials (video trainings, weekly emails, book, etc.)?

  • How many hours per week are you looking for?  What is the minimum?  What is the maximum?  What is the ideal?

  • What is your hourly rate?  (This is an independent contractor position, so you set your rate.)

Step 2:  We’ll chat by email or perhaps do a Zoom call.

Step 3:  We will sign an independent contractor agreement.

Step 4:  I will give you a “test” project or projects.  I will pay you for these projects, even if either of us decides that this is not a good fit.

Step 5:  If we both agree to continue working together, we will establish research assignments, deadlines and a schedule for Zoom calls.
